Music all over the world has undergone a lot of changes in recent years due to people becoming interested in the New Age music genre and its subgenres. 


Each subgenre aims to fulfill the expectations of the music lovers interested in that particular topic. A person can, for example, search for New Age songs under topics like Enigma, garden, Yanni, Enya, healing, and other categories.

1. Return to Innocence

Return to Innocence is a song created by the Romanian-German musical group Enigma. The song describes the life of a person in reverse, from death to birth. The song was featured on the album “The Cross of Changes.”


The single was listed as one of the top 20 selling songs in France and Italy. The song made the top five rankings in various other countries. Return to Innocence was a huge hit in the United States, reaching number two on the Billboard Modern Rock chart and number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

Most all of Engima’s music is an example of New Age Ambient Electronic music.

2. Orinoco Flow

Orinoco Flow is a song composed by the Irish singer and songwriter Enya. It received two Grammy nominations. One nomination was for Best Music Video and the other was for Best New Age Performance. The song stayed on the United Kingdom’s Singles Chart for three weeks. In the U.S. it peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100.


It is, in fact, one of the best-selling new age songs of all time and has become a huge hit among New Age music enthusiasts. 

Most of Enya’s music falls in the Celtic New Age category, Orinoco Flow being an exception. This, like Enigma’s Return to Innocence, is more aligned with New Age Ambient Electronic music.

3. Nostalgia

Nostalgia was developed by Yanni for his album “Keys to Imagination.” Yanni is a famous music artist, composer, and producer who has created many albums over the years.


Nostalgia received good responses from music lovers all over the world with one critic calling it a masterpiece.

It is a good example of New Age Piano Music.

4. Age of Loneliness

Age of Loneliness is a new age song created by Enigma. Like Return to Innocence, it is also from the album “The Cross of Changes.”

5. Caribbean Blue

Caribbean Blue is another song sung by Enya. It was very popular in Poland and some other countries. It is from the album “Shepherd Moons.”


The song grabbed the attention of music lovers all over the world and got top rankings on various musical charts. This includes number eight on the Irish Singles Chart and number 13 on the UK Singles Chart. It topped off at number 79 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.

6. Silent Warrior

Silent Warrior is new age chore song that belongs to Enigma. It is once again from the album “The Cross of Changes.” As a side note, this album is very good in its entirety and well worth a listen to.

7. Sweet Lullaby

Sweet Lullaby is a song by Deep Forest, a French world music and electronic group. It would go on to place in the top 30 on many European and Oceanic charts. It reached number three in Norway and number seven in Australia. It topped off the Billboard Hot 100 in the 78.

Sweet Lullaby would be an example of New Age Tribal music.

8. Yeha-Noha

Yeha-Noha stands for Wishes of Happiness and Prosperity. It was recorded by the German music project Sacred Spirit for their album “Chants and Dances of the Native Americans.”

The song was certified Gold disc in France. It spent 19 weeks on the France Singles Chart, topping off at number one. In Belgium it reached number three on the top 50 and in the U.S. it was on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart for 11 weeks. It peaked in the U.K. at number 37.

Like Sweet Lullaby, this would be an example of New Age Tribal music.

9. Oxygene

French music composer Jean-Michel Jarre released his album Oxygene in 1976. By 1977 it was an international success reaching number one on the French charts, number two on the UK charts, and number 78 on the U.S. charts.

The album has six tracks and they are labeled Oxygen 1-6. Of those tracks, part IV is perhaps most well known and liked.

Oxygene is an example of New Age Space Electronic music.

10. Conquest of Paradise

Conquest of Paradise is a song composed and performed by the Greek master of New Age Music, Vangelis. Vangelis often ranks at the top of New Age performer lists and there is almost no New Age music list that does not include at least one of Vangelis’s songs.

It is from the movie soundtrack “1492 – Conquest of Paradise,” which debuted in 1992. The success of this album earned Vangelis an Echo award for best title theme of a TV film or series.

Despite the fact sales were initially horrible, as the years have gone on the album has gained more and more success. The album has been certified gold or platinum in over 17 countries!
